Aeris’ GSP Opens New Stream of Revenue for Mobile Providers with M2M Services
February 10, 2014
Mobile network operators, particularly these days, have to keep eyes open for new sources of revenue at most any opportunity. With increasing use of mobile networks demanding more bandwidth, and thus more construction and expense, the inevitable question comes up of how to pay for all that while still yielding the profitability that makes staying in the industry worthwhile. Aeris Communications has something in mind that may prove helpful on that front in its new GSP, a global service platform for machine to machine (M2M) communications specifically for mobile network operators.
With GSP, which can be offered as an additional service or as part of several other modular service packages, operators can bring out certain network elements without having to incur the costs of establishing such purpose-built elements. Better yet, since GSP can also be used with Aeris’ AerCore system as well as the AerCloud cloud-based data management system, several new potential offerings come available including big data and analytics projects, as well as data sharing functions, which can each add a good chunk to a user’s bottom line under the right circumstances. Using Aeris’ AerSight with it, meanwhile, improves in reporting on network transaction details which can help spot problems before same become serious, and improves in terms of both bottom-line return—lower operating expenses—and overall efficiency in the operation.
Better yet, Aeris announced moves not so long ago that would further help reduce costs. A European expansion means that Aeris can now offer an end-to-end solution across both GSM and CDMA wireless technologies, meaning there’s no longer a need to bring in two different providers to cover both regions, a move that can save providers money in the long term by not having to manage different interfaces. Plus, since Aeris partnered with Multi-Tech Systems back in January, Aeris now has a set of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions that can be brought into play as well.
Aeris’ product line already comes with some high praise built in the form of Sprint, whose director of M2M product, platforms and marketing Mohamad Nasser, offered a bit of commentary in terms of the kind of value that the Aeris line brought. He said, “Their innovative technology and services are key components of Sprint’s Command Center M2M platform. The Aeris professionals are quick to resolve any issues, and their market-leading platform ensures that Command Center remains at the forefront of M2M services capabilities.”
It’s hard to ignore a company with the kind of versatility that Aeris Communications can bring to the fore, and with so many tricks in its metaphorical bag of same, there’s a little something here—potentially even several little somethings—for most any mobile operator eager to offer new tools to its customer base. It’s seldom a bad idea to be diversified—even more so in a comparatively weak economy—and having the ability to bring more than one thing to the table is generally an edge in the market against competitors. We have video on this and many more subjects available at this link.
While not everyone may be able to find something with Aeris Communications, the new GSP, coupled with all its other offerings, should make for value on several different fronts, particularly the rapidly-growing M2M sector.
